RELAY SIGNS UP THE NEXT GENERATION
June 2001
Relay Recruitment, has drafted in experienced Consultant, Penny Shield as part of its drive to free up established players to launch a branch network next year.
Heading up a new team out of Relay’s Bradford headquarters, Penny is tasked with maintaining the company’s offer to clients when colleagues move out to run an expanded Leeds site and new offices across Yorkshire.

Having cut her teeth as a Customer Service Executive in first publishing and then banking, she boasts the diverse qualities needed to meet the formidable demands of Yorkshire’s mix of industries. Insight into private recruitment practice was gained working with consultancies as a client, and Penny feels that encouraging better treatment of agency workers will be crucial to raising Relay’s standards yet higher.

Her considerable expertise is being harnessed to help form the infrastructure that the company needs to realise its ambitions of being the dominant regional player - set out in its recent growth plan. She plans to hit the ground running, and already has some ambitious improvement targets in her sights.

“In the past, I have worked alongside sizeable agency worker presences and want to ensure that their input is recognised and rewarded.”

Penny was encouraged by Relay’s ambitions to eliminate disparities between temporary staff and directly engaged employees for a more inclusive culture, and has been given special raise loyalty and retention.

Says Relay MD, Steven Street, “In order to grow, we must give our older hands – many of whom have been with us from the outset - their own ‘commands’, and bed in new executives to work closely with some of our most valued clients. We have, necessarily, taken a long time to identify and attract individuals of the highest calibre for ‘the next generation’, and I believe that the new recruits coming on board are as good as any that could be given the challenge.”
