2005 News:
A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS
August 2005
Relay has signed up former Bradford City FC goalkeeper, Jon Worsnop, as group industrial manager.

Jon, 22, who was part of City’s first team for three years, including its time in the Premiership, has carved out a career in human resources since hanging up his gloves.
His appointment is in line with Relay’s policy of recruiting for broad personnel experience, rather than simply ‘agency time’.

After appointments first in call centre and sales management, he rose to branch manager level within a major recruiter, before deciding it was time to secure an ‘inspiring role’ that would allow true development opportunities.

Jon said: “I had several offers on the table, but took Relay’s as I thought I could learn more here and because its philosophy chimed with my own. The company will not pitch for the lowest rates, only works with responsible clients and makes candidate- and client-care top priority.  Also I felt I would be most encouraged to control my future by developing an autonomous business unit.”

Immediate priorities are to consolidate and grow existing business. “Too often, in any field, the needs and sensitivities of loyal customers are trampled underfoot as service providers rush headlong into new relationships. While a throughflow of fresh business is vital, that approach is a mistake."

Relay group managing director, Steven Street, praised Worsnop’s precocious talents and self-assurance. “As Jon was dealing with agents, board executives, corporate sponsors and fellow professionals from the age of 16, he is confident and articulate beyond his years. He has been selling his view of the world to a dizzying array of audiences for much longer than anyone else of his age and quickly won the trust of Relay clients and candidates alike.

“In addition, we value greatly the qualities that a professional footballer must display. A highly disciplined approach, teamwork, determination to be the very best and an insatiable appetite for the fray all help us achieve the ambitious service offers we commit to.”
